NCSA Mosaic 2.7 is one of the first graphical web browsers, originally developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois. It played a pivotal role in popularising the World Wide Web by introducing inline images and a point-and-click interface to navigate hypertext documents.

Features include support for HTTP, FTP, Gopher, NNTP and local file browsing, inline JPEG and PNG images, HTML forms, hotlists, session history, and PostScript printing.

Building

  • First, install these packages:

    sudo apt-get install build-essential libmotif-dev libjpeg62-dev libpng12-dev x11proto-print-dev libxmu-headers libxpm-dev libxmu-dev
    
  • Next, build with:

    make linux
    
  • Run!

    src/Mosaic
